Fish Jush @ LexisNexis-KL Bar Treasure Hunt '06

This was possibly be the last ever hunt we would have together as Fish Jush. But there have been fun memories to look back on, and we were going to make sure we had a lot of fun on our final outing and try to get a good placing.

We went together to the familiar meeting place of Swedish Marque, early early in the morning.

Our faithful car, nicknamed Gilbert, was all stickered up. Number 48, ready to roll.

We stocked up on breakfast, courtesy of Swedish Marque, and well, almost all of us were dressed in the red LexisNexis t-shirts passed to us:

This was the inaugural LexisNexis-KL Bar Treasure Hunt, and I think this will be an annual affair. The good thing was that there was a strict divide between the Open and the Closed category. The Open category was open to all members of the public, including seasoned and 'professional' treasure hunters. The Closed category was only for the staff members of LexisNexis and lawyers, so it gave us a fighting chance to try and get a good placing.

This was our third hunt together as a team, and by now, we benefited from the experienced we had gained. We dumped the bulky laptops we used to bring, we brought along only the necessary copies of dictionaries and a thesaurus. We also had created our 'database' of sorts of our 'past year question' papers. We studied the questions and answers, and trying to learn from the obstacles of our previous hunts. Sounds serious and all, but we did it all in the spirit of the hunt, and each person's enthusiasm would rub off on the other, to spur each other on.

Question: Gang I trick
Answer: Mobicon (Mob-I-Con)

Aside from the 30 or so questions in the treasure hunt, there were normally 4 treasures to deduce from the clues left for us. Treasures carry a lot of points so it is critical to make sure that you don't miss out on any treasures.

We struggled through some of the harder questions in the hunt, had to leave some blank, and we were a bit panicky towards the end, cuz we thought that we might not make the time limit and then start incurring point deductions. In the end, we made it with 4 minutes to spare, and I checked in with our question sheet and all the treasures.

We then head to make the trek up to Genting Highlands for the closing ceremony and to enjoy our high tea spread at the Genting Hotel Grand Ballroom. We drove part of the way up, and then decided to hop onto the cable car. I've never taken the cable car up to Genting! I think I've been up to Genting before, but only when I was very little, and I can't remember it at all.

As the cable car pulled out of the station, I suddenly remembered that sometimes, my selective fear of heights kicks in. Selective in the sense that I am fine on rollercoaster or other thrill-rides, but I absolutely cannot walk across a high suspension bridge for instance.

As I stared at the ground far below me, I felt my palms and my feet start to sweat. But that went away after a while, and the cable car ride was pretty enjoyable.

At the Genting ballroom, the high tea spread was really good. I only regret that I had kinda eaten at the Burger King already, since I was so hungry after the hunt, so I couldn't eat that much up in Genting. The answers and the explanations were slowly revealed to us, and we tallied it up and we had missed out/gotten wrong 5 questions. Would that put us in the running to win anything?

As the results were announced.......Fish Jush placed 4th! That was great, but a pity we just missed out on the top 3 places. We each won a microwave. Luckily they passed us a voucher to collect the item, instead of having to lug the microwaves all the way back down again. But if we had managed to creep into the top 3, we would have received RM250 cash....shucks.... I don't think we could have done all that much better, and we just slowly improve after each hunt.

It was one tiring day, and I don't remember feeling so exhausted after the previous hunts I went for. It was going to be another trip down the cable car (no more fear this time).
