Memories of the UK

I spent just about a week back in the UK, after being away for close to 6 years. Walking around and experiencing life back there brought back so many memories of my time spent in the UK during my LLB and Bar year.

I've set out below the hodgepodge of random memories that came back to me during my time in the UK, since I managed to relive these memories. I've also included random pictures taken from my UK trip.

Walking into Greggs to pick up my favourite combination of some chicken pasties, a chocolate donut and a bottle of Oasis drink.

Making shopping trips to the Chinese supermarket.

Buying boxes (yes a whole box, not just packets) of Indomee. These Indomee were from Indonesia and not the not-as-tasty variety we get back here.

Having dim sum at Royal China at Bayswater, and tucking into the egg tarts.

Taking the train from Bristol Temple Meads station, and then waiting at Paddingtons station to get back. Flipping open the rail pass to get discounted tickets.

While sitting in my brother's university common room, remembered the many lunches spent at the UWE common room ordering whatever specials they had for that day.

Walking into a Wetherspoons pub, and ordering a veggie burger or other burgers at the bar.

Buying and putting on the different layers of clothing. A zipped sweater, a jacket, a scarf, beanie, windbreaker.

Feeling the cold freezing air on my face even as the sun is shining bright in the sky.

While walking around the city, everyone seems to blend in and blur together, all in the same dark colour palette.

Walking out of the house, in the chilly night, having thrown on a thick jacket over whatever t-shirt I had been wearing at that time, in order to trot over to the nearby kebab stall to take away a tasty but sinful doner kebab lathered with chilli or garlic mayo sauce.

Walking into the supermarket, and when buying milk, I don't choose by looking at the different brands or packaging. Instead, you look for only 3 colours: blue, green or red. The favourite was green, blue was full cream while red just tasted too watered down.

While checking out at the supermarket, I hear the familiar phrase "Would you like cash back?"

Despite the cold and the wind outside, as long as there is a stretch of sunshine, I will see people walking around in t-shirts and shorts, or summer dresses, while I am still wrapped up in my layers since the temperature is still hovering below 10 degrees.

I miss it already. I would love to go back there again.

Hmmm..... now that I'm out of Melbourne, I kinda get what you mean when I return there. Before, it was always so accessible and "down the road".
Send my congratulations to your brother - it must've been a herculean battle to get through a phd thesis!

Hey, thanks, will send the congrats on. Yes, I've seen the massive thesis that my brother worked on. One impressive piece of work though it is at such a high level, I don't understand almost all of it.
